# David sculpture geometry attribution and license

The actual mesh in `david-scan-geometry.js` is a derivative of **David By Michelangelo Sculpture (Statue 3D Scan)** by **3DWP**, which credits **David by Michelangelo** by **Jerry Fisher / jerry7171** as its source. It is a photogrammetry scan of the full-size bronze David copy in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, rather than a Stanford scan or a new procedural imitation. The historical sculptor is Michelangelo.

Use the license declared in the actual preserved release. Its included `LICENSE.txt` and `README.txt` explicitly link CC BY-SA 3.0, and `SOURCES.txt` explicitly links the original Thingiverse 502300. The local audit retains these exact files unchanged under `task/david-geometry-study/source/`; the original `LICENSE.txt` is also distributed at `/art/LICENSE.txt`. Newer labels on present-day Thingiverse or Sketchfab pages differ; they are not substituted for the terms of this downloaded release. No account-gated Sketchfab asset or restricted Stanford dataset was downloaded.

Local changes: chose `files/DavidStatue.stl`, the version without generated printing supports; triangulated and decimated from 833,120 triangles to 40,000 triangles; applied smooth normals; converted to Y-up with +Z-facing front; centered X/Z, seated minimum Y at zero, and normalized full height to 5.4 metres; exported indexed, six-decimal position/normal arrays and 16-bit indices. UVs, textures, original material, animation and external runtime requests are absent. The original sculpture's small base and tree support remain part of the figure mesh. Both scene statues should share this one geometry.

This optimized mesh derivative is offered under **CC BY-SA 3.0**. Preserve this attribution, source links, license link and notice of modifications when distributing it. The geometry license does not imply creator endorsement of the homepage, local gag, or surrounding game. The locally authored wooden sign, placement, plinths and scene code are separate work; this note makes no claim that the scan is public domain.

Suggested visible credits text for a site's credits/about page:

The reproducible conversion is recorded in the local audit directory `task/david-geometry-study/`: `optimize_asset.py`, `export-sync-geometry.mjs`, `optimized-40k/optimization-report.json`, and `sync-geometry-report.json`. That directory also retains the download receipt and original archive metadata. The geometry derivative distributed with the homepage is downloadable at `/art/david-scan-geometry.js`.

## Scope and limits

This is a real sculpture scan with recognizable pose, sling hand, contrapposto, hair, fingers and tree support. Source smoothing and scan resolution limit fine facial/hair detail; 40k triangles cannot restore missing source detail. The study renders are full-body offline renders, not screenshots of final game integration. Check actual candidate framing and the unchanged compact-screen visibility gate after integration. No publication or deployment was performed.

Distributed scene format: quantized positions to 0.1 millimetre precision (maximum coordinate change 0.00005000 metres), packed normals and indices, synchronous decoding to standard Three.js attributes. This additional optimized mesh derivative remains CC BY-SA 3.0.
